Two of Ohio’s last remaining undefeated teams squared off on February 17 when 7th ranked Walsh Jesuit hosted the state’s top team St. Vincent-St. Mary, which currently holds the 9th place in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings.
Walsh had the early jump on the Fighting Irish, leading 19-16 after the first and 32-28 by halftime. St. Vincent responded with a big third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 22-13. The final quarter went a fairly even 16-14 in favor of St. Vincent, giving the Fighting Irish a 66-59 victory.
Junior Henry Baddley was a crucial part of St. Vincent’s recovery, leading all scorers with a career-high 28 points. Jibri Blount helped out with 12 of his own. The Fighting Irish had six other scorers pushing St. Vincent forward throughout the match.
Moving on to 19-0, St. Vincent has a big challenge ahead went it faces DigitalSports’ 12th ranked team, Villa Angela-St. Joseph. The two Ohio heavyweights go head-to-head on February 21.
